Immigration to Canada
Canada invites skilled workers as permanent residents based on their ability to settle in Canada. There is a new system to manage how people with skilled work experience apply to immigrate to Canada. This new system started in 2015 is called Express Entry System. It is now possible to immigrate to Canada within a time span of 6 to 12 months.
Below are the few criteria on which a candidate’s eligibility for the process of Canadian immigration is based:
· Skills or occupation,
· Years of work experience,
· language ability- English, French or both,
· spouse’s skills (if applicable)
· qualification/education, and
· other criteria such as presence of close relatives etc.
INVITATION TO APPLY FOR CANADIAN PERMANENT RESIDENCY
Candidates who are in the pool will be ranked against others using a point-based system. Points are awarded using the information in their profile. In order to apply for the PR one needs to be invited by the immigration authorities of Canada during the regular draws that take place every month. Candidates with the highest scores in the pool will be issued an invitation to apply (ITA).
Candidates can stay in the pool for up to 12 months. If they do not get an invitation to apply for permanent residence within 12 months of submitting an Express Entry profile, they may re-apply. As long as they still meet the eligibility criteria, they can re-enter the pool.
Note: If you meet the entry criteria for the Express Entry pool, you are not guaranteed an invitation to apply for permanent residence visa. All applicants for permanent residence also need to meet eligibility and admissibility requirements under Canada’s immigration law (Immigration and Refugee Protection Act).
